Tortola is the largest island of the British Virgin Islands. It is located in the Caribbean Sea, 90 miles east of Puerto Rico and 70 miles northwest of St Martin. The coordinates of the island are 18º25´24”N 64º37´05”.
The MedCaribbean Charter base is located on the East End of Tortola at the JY Harbour View Marina, a full service marina with many facilities including shower facilities, restaurant and pool bar, and a Rite Way Grocery store within walking distance.
HOW TO GET TO TORTOLA
Tortola’s airport, Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) is very close to the MedCaribbean base on the East End of the island (5 minute drive). It is located on Beef Island, which is connected to the East of Tortola through a bridge.
The airport is rather small therefore there are no direct flights from any mainland airport in USA, Canada, Europe or South America, but thanks to the island´s close location to other major Caribbean hubs there are many connections.
The main airport to fly to is San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) with many airline connections like American Airlines, Jet Blue, USAIR, United Airlines, or Iberia. From there you can connect to Tortola with American Eagle, Cape Air and Air Sunshine.
If you prefer flying to St. Thomas (STT), American Airlines, Delta USAir, Jet Blue, United Airlines and Air Canada have direct flights. From there you can either take a flight with Cape Air or Seaborne, or take the ferry from Charlotte Amalie or Red Hook in St Thomas (They only run during the day so make sure you can catch the last one which departs at 4:30 pm). Find out more about connecting ferries here
Another option is flying to Antigua (ANU), which can be quite convenient for those coming from the UK and Canada, you can then take a flight with LIAT or take a private charter flight.
For access from St Martin and St Kitts you can take both LIAT and BVI Airways.
